R324 GTSR22 Update

First of all I have to apologise for the lack of updates in the last few weeks. In light of this, here’s an update.

The first piece of work done on the newly sandblasted and primed shell was to paint the engine bay. I decided to paint it in the brightest white that the local paint mixer could produce, funnily enough that turned out to be Nissan QM1 paint. So the engine bay was cleaned up, flatted back and given a few coats of white.

Next I worked on getting the Bee*r body kit mounted up properly before painting the rest of the bodyshell. I wanted to fit the kit properly before painting the bodyshell to avoid doing too much damage to the paint whilst moving panels around. The quality of the body kit truly is second to none, it fits up with minimal modifications and only a few screws are required.

Now me being me, I couldn’t bare to have the wiper motor looking old and tatty with black paint and rust, so that too was stripped down, primed and painted to match the engine bay.

One of the last jobs before painting the bodyshell was fitting the bootlid properly, this turned out to be trickier than I’d first imagined due to how flexible and thin the bootlid skin was. I ended up opting for a couple of bonnet pins mounted just behind the rear screen and some good old fashioned spring clips secured to the rear bumper.

As with the wiper motor I wasn’t happy with the finish on the front cross member so I decided to sandblast that myself in a make shift tent on the drive – not a nice job. It came up nicely and with a bit of primer and paint it looks like new again.

The latest job has been spraying the underside white to match the engine bay, to do this I had to flip the whole bodyshell back on its side for a few coats of the Nissan QM1 paint.
